Haitian Earthquake Relief
The tragedy in Haiti is enormous, and it will take years and lots resources to help rebuild this decimated country as portrayed by this AP video. The Boston Globe put together a picture blog that is telling the story, just be advised it is graphic!
Our partners:
Here at Fairfield CC we are putting our relief efforts behind Lifeline Christian Mission, a solid and proven mission with a 30 year history in Haiti directed by
Bob
and Gretchen DeVoe. They have been shipping supplies and food out of their Westerville facility to their established schools and clinics in various locations in Haiti. Bob and Gretchen are networked with the local authorities to help in the efforts to restore Haiti. We have offered to be a collection point for Lifeline to gather necessary resources that will aid in the relief efforts.
How you can help:
1. Cash donations are certainly appreciated and can be done directly at their website or through the church, but because they regularly ship supplies to Haiti in large shipping containers, they have asked for specific things that will help:
- Peanut Butter
- Canned Meats
- Baby Formula
- OTC Meds and Bandages
- Shoes (light weight and reasonable styles)
- Bedding
- Non-perishables
We will have containers labeled “For Haiti” at the main entry ways of the church, Monday through Friday from 8-4 and at all Sunday services.
2. You can volunteer to serve in Haiti. Lifeline is and will be sending workers to assist in the rebuilding efforts on the ground in Haiti. They are still accessing the damage, but if you are interested and would like to offer your skills, or would like to organize a team to go, contact Keith with Lifeline at Keith@Lifeline.org or call 614-794-0108
3. You can volunteer here in central Ohio as well. We suggest, but you are certainly not limited to them;
- Volunteer at Lifelines warehouse in Westerville. They are taking in large amounts of items to be shipped, manpower is needed to sort, box and load the containers. (Contact Dana@Lifeline.org to schedule a time.)
- Organize a collection drive for relief items ( see list above)
- Collect donations
4. Another opportunity may be to travel to Cincinnati to package meals for Haiti with Kids Against Hunger. If interested in doing this contact Brant Yount by email or call 614.668.5556.
