Deadline for Participation: May 21, 2010
Cost: $2500-$3000 to be determined once airline tickets are purchased. This includes international air travel, in-country housing, food, materials, etc.
Team Size: 8-14 persons. High school graduate or higher.
Project: This is an international project, typically including participants from several countries around the Balkan region (Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Albania, Bosnia, Slovenia, Slovakia, etc.). We gather in Ohrid, Macedonia to evangelize in pairs and in groups through different settings presented by the lakeside resort town. We see this project as an opportunity for participants to develop a lifestyle of sharing their faith that will stick with them beyond the projects’ close. On this project you will receive training in how to communicate your faith, and you will have plenty of opportunity to use what you learn.
Other project elements include larger organized group outreaches – happening two or so times throughout the duration of the project. These are times where you can invite your prior contacts to an event where they will be further exposed to other Christians and once again to the Gospel. Also the project participants are a part of small group Bible studies each day. The college age participants are discipled by an older person weekly. The schedule is usually very full, however we allow time for reflection and for people to be able to spend time one on one with the Lord. There are project socials…and time for fellowship so that you can get to know brothers and sisters from across the world! And there is of course time for fun, exploration, and adventure around this captivating city! I will be fun too!
(It is also good to mention that the main people group that we will be trying to reach identify themselves mostly as Orthodox Christians. We can give you a bit more of a description as to what this means and how to approach them down the road. Around 70% of the population affiliates themselves with Orthodoxy – around 30% of the population as Muslim. We will inevitably be meeting Muslims also in our evangelism efforts, and will share Christ openly with them as well. More and more these days, we are also meeting young people who consider themselves atheists, or who have been exposed to new age religion and are very attracted to that. With all of these people, we have found that we are able to initiate spiritual conversation from the very first meeting, and each time we make an attempt to share the entire Gospel with them. We would love to have your help joining in this effort! We can use all of the hands that we can get! The contacts that we make during the summer we try to follow-up on through the year, because many of them are studying at the main University in Skopje where we concentrate our efforts during the academic year).
Project skill sets: A desire to share the message of Christ with others. A six session basic training and study will be done prior to traveling to Macedonia.
Travel requirements: A passport.
