The mission of the Small Groups Ministry is to become a spiritual family by reaching, connecting and growing in Christ! Here at Fairfield, this mission can be accomplished several different ways.

Starting Point

We hope you feel welcomed and right at home in your brief time at Fairfield so far. Often times the initial comments you hear from people are, “It’s overwhelming at first” or “Where do I begin?” If this is where you find yourself currently or if you’ve been coming for a while, but haven’t found a place to connect – you’re at the right place! Starting Point is a four week class that meets once a quarter on Sunday mornings at 10:30 am in Room 402, which is located just inside entrance B. During our time together, we will discuss the following weekly topics:

  • An overview of Fairfield Christian Church
  • Essential beliefs of an evangelical church
  • What are the core beliefs of our church?
  • What does it mean to grow in Christ?

For questions or to register for an upcoming class please contact
Teresa Sullivan or call 740.654.0099.

Alpha
A Practical Introduction to the Christian Faith

Are you looking for a place where you can learn more about the basics of the Christian faith? What about a place where you could invite someone who is really unsure what they think about God, Jesus or the Bible? What if the same place could also serve as an extremely informative course for new Christians or others looking to brush up on the basics? Well, look no further, The Alpha Course is it!

What is the meaning of life? What happens when we die? What relevance does Jesus have for our lives? How do we deal with guilt? These are just a sampling of the questions that Alpha will explore.

Alpha is for:
  • Anyone interested in finding out more about the Christian faith. Adults of all ages are welcome.
  • Learning and laughter. It is possible to learn about the Christian faith and to have fun at the same time.
  • People meeting together. An opportunity to get to know others and make new friends.
  • Helping one another. The small groups give you a chance to discuss issues raised during the talks.
  • Ask anything. Alpha is a place where no question is seen as too simple or too hostile.
The series of talks during The Alpha Course include:
  • Who is Jesus?
  • Why did Jesus Die?
  • Why and How Do I Pray?
  • Why and How Should I Read the Bible?
  • Who is the Holy Spirit?
  • How can I Resist Evil?
  • Why and How Should I Tell Others?
  • Does God Heal Today?
  • What about the Church?

Before each talk, a free dinner, along with plenty of tea and coffee, will be served. After each talk, there will be a small group time where you can ask any sort of question or just sit back and take in the discussion.

If you or others you know might be interested in checking out The Alpha Course, please R.S.V.P. in advance with Teresa Sullivan or call 740.654.0099.

Adult Bible Fellowships or ABF’s for short are small groups of people that meet on Sunday mornings at 8:00, 9:00 or 10:30 AM for the purpose of Bible study, prayer and fellowship. Many ABF’s also get together outside of class for meals, recreation and just plain fun!

There are a wide variety of ABF’s to choose from. Here are some things to think about when trying to choose an ABF that is right for you:

  • Teaching style – some ABF’s are more discussion oriented while others tend more toward a lecture style.
  • Content – some ABF’s prefer more of an expository or verse-by-verse study of different books of the Bible, while others follow more of a topical approach to studying Scripture and others use of variety of approaches.
  • Make-up of the class – ABF’s can be fairly specific in age range or type of class, such as couples or single adults; while others have a wide age range or a mixed group that attend.
  • Outside activities - there are ABF’s that spend a good deal of time building relationships outside of class, and there are others that put more of a focus on their time together on Sunday mornings.

If you have any questions about what ABF might be a good fit for you please contact Small Groups Pastor Todd Smeltzer or Adult Education Pastor Mark Barbee. They can also be reached at 740.654.0099.

Home groups are small groups of people that meet in various homes throughout the week all over Fairfield County and beyond. Home groups offer folks an opportunity to come together in a relaxed environment to study God’s Word and build life-giving relationships with other people. They are perfect for those who might find themselves going to a worship service and serving in a ministry on Sunday mornings.

Others have commented on how they enjoy the sense of community that is forged by getting together in someone’s living room. Home Groups typically meet for a couple of hours or so in the evening, which allows for plenty of time for study, discussion and simply hanging out to get to know one another better.
